On the presidential elections in Nigeria
On February 25, presidential elections were held in Nigeria. According to official data of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria, the candidate from the ruling Congress of All Progressive Forces party, A.B.A.Tinubu, won, for whom 8.8 million Nigerians voted. His main opponents – A.Abubakar from the People's Democratic Party and P. Obi from the Labor Party – scored 6.9 and 6.1 million votes, respectively. The inauguration ceremony of the new president is scheduled for May 29 this year.
The statement issued by the Chairman of the African Union Commission, M.F. Mahamat, gave a positive assessment of the results of the last vote, which was recognized as legitimate.
Moscow welcomes the successful holding of elections in Nigeria and confirms its readiness to further strengthen the relations of traditional friendship and cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
